Puzzles are a microcosm of the Brilliant learning experience. Puzzles are bite-sized, simple (at least at first glance), and can be great to spark interest and curiosity in a conceptual topic and more discovery in a related Brilliant course or lesson.

These fun, individual math, science, and computer science questions can done in ~5-10 minutes and they often have multiple solutions, which make them wonderful content for group learning activities, eliciting excellent student conversations.

How to assign Puzzles

Similar to Lessons, Puzzles are also organized into courses based on subject matter. Brilliant has Puzzle courses that cover foundational and/or advanced math, science, computer science, and more. To locate and assign Puzzle courses:

  1. Select a class.

  2. Click on “Courses” from the left-side menu (it may be pre-selected).

  3. Select a subject (math, science, or comp sci).

  4. Scroll down through the courses until you see ones with the word “Puzzles” in the title.

  5. Click “add to classroom”

Using Puzzles in your classroom

Educators love using our Puzzles as "warm-ups" to get students thinking! Each Puzzle gives the background information needed for all of your students to grapple with an interesting and conceptual question. They are also great for sparking rich discussions.
